    This didn't occur to me. That Maedhros is deliberately diplomatic. But you are right. That is exactly what he would do. What he is like.

    I rather felt like Maedhros chose Gwindor because he didn't think of himself. Didn't desire his friendship. Didn't want to, well, own him (so much ownership in this familly, even where I have never thought it before ....).

    Gwindor is just simple friend. He just wants Maedhros to be well. Fingon is not. He wants Maedhros' friendship (or whatever else). Have you ever been a jealous friend? I was. It never works. Ownership destroys everything. Poor Fingon! Don't do it! Be independent!

    Such complicated emotions!
