    I really loved this exchange:
    “ “I see,” Sophie said. “Just promise me: next time some magical quest presents itself, I’ll go, and you’ll stay home with the baby.”

    “It’s a promise,” Howl said, but his eyes looked shifty. “

    Because we know Howl is a slitherer-outer! And Sophie has such a strong sense of fairness!

      Glad you liked it! Timeline-wise, this story would fall about halfway between Castle in the Air and House of Many Ways, and this is in fact pretty much what happens in the latter book: Sophie leaves Howl at home with Morgan, and then he... slithers out. :)
