Best read with the opening crawl for 'The Wind Waker' in the background. I could absolutely picture Ophilia giving a sermon about all this to the faithful in Flamesgrace. It's a good way to set up the story, and the subtle changes to some of the genders help to further draw similarities between eight of the gods and eight of the heroes.
I was particularly enthused by the allusions to aspects of Galdera's boss fight from the game. The eye that never seemed to die was perfect. I know plenty of players - myself included - that found the eye to be far, far harder than the main body. And then Octopath 2 came out and said 'Oh, so you don't like having to fight through eight bosses for one chance at Galdera? Okay, that's fine. How about we take out the wait time and just make Galdera harder?'
There can be no doubt about how powerful Galdera is after all that. I feel like this is a good example of why fanfiction works with a gaming medium as inspiration - I know plenty of players who have experienced Galdera in some form, and they can all agree on just how brutal the Fallen is.
I'm really excited to put the Galdera fight into prose for this story. It's going to be a long time before I get there, but I'm still looking forward to it because, let's be honest here, writing that eyeball finally receiving the punishment it deserves is going to be so damn satisfying.

It deserves every second of it. There's nothing quite as disheartening as thinking you've lined up the right sequence of damaging attacks to take out all the souls only for one of those screaming phantoms to survive juuuuust in time for the eye to restore all the others, throwing off the careful dance of death you've had to perform for the last ten minutes for another thirty.
Sorry, no, there's nothing quite as disheartening as the eye coldcocking you with lightning and having to fight eight bosses all over again, each lasting a good twenty minutes, to get another shot at Galdera.
Though I do believe it helps illustrate just how seemingly invincible and unstoppable Galdera is. Even when you can engage him, he is by far the greatest threat you can ever face.
The "counters non-weaknesses" souls in OT2 definitely feels like a deliberate middle finger from the devs. Or it would, if not for the fact that all three are weak to axes and wind, Ochette can triple-summon AOE axe double-hits without even boosting, and Beastlings exist. Then again, Hired Help can break most of the game if you have the funds for it (not even mentioning the Foreign Assassins), but isn't that half the fun of these games? Definitely a bad time if you're going in blind, though, especially if you beat the Eye and then get merked by the Blade and Maw because of a bad turn order.
