Honestly, I cannot express how grateful I am for your kind words regarding this story, due, in part, to my anxieties regarding the characters' representation and voices given my unfamiliarity with the fandom. Reading the manga has provided me with my own insights and interpretations, but they've never been "tested" by way of fandom interplay, conversation, or reading.
This version of Genos bears some resemblance to highly erudite characters whom I have written for other fandoms, but I tried to introduce a stilted quality to him, and a level, as you noted, of obliviousness that was both comedic and explained by his disconnected life, trauma, lost childhood, and the like. So definitely unique to him.
Always thrilled to make readers laugh. My favorite technique is trying to blend comedy and serious drama, using the former as a pressure release valve. So many of my stories are "crack comedy" with an attempt at constructing a genuinely affecting thematic core.
Happy reading, and thank you for affirming so many of my intentions with this work by way of your perceptive observations.
