Hahaha im thrilled to have such a long comment !! I have gotten into the drakengard/neir universe recently and i sincerly appriciate that you took the time to read my monstrosity. Im very pleased to note that it is coming across the way i had hoped for.
I hope i potrayed Caim correctly as i worked a decent amount of self projection into the base i used for my interpretation of his character.
As for if Caim had allowed Earth to reshape him i imagine he would have become something similar to the doll from Bloodborne or Emil himself! She wants someone to worship her in the same way that people revere power. Because in essence she is the 'ultimate' power. She had thought that there was no one above her until maso had infected her, anyhow. Not that she really was congnizent of this until the maso had been introduced to her existance.
She would simply prune away the 'bad' until only 'good' remained. Of course those are abirtrary sentiments of what makes good and what makes bad. She certainly will have impacted something though it wont be noticable until proabably ch 3. She did impact something, even if that something was already present within Caims psych to an extent
I hope that the next chapter holds up to expectations
I apologize for typos im writing this on my phone! Thank you so much for the love !! <3 <3
About a week late, but I wanted to thank you for the reply and respond some more in in turn, especially since your meaty response provided plenty to consider.
I hear that about characterizing Caim. It's kind of a necessity with how he spends the brunt of the game mute. I do my damndest to make sure my portrayal includes a lot of the body language and sword pointing/flailing he does in DoD1's cutscenes. In any case, I generally make Caim out in my own fic to be an angry misanthrope with very little patience, that's had much of his sanity and capacity for kindness worn down over the years by all the trauma he endured. Having said that, and despite me leaning into his bloodlust/enjoyment of killing, I also wanted to still make Caim someone the readers can still enjoy following and sympathize with, so I try to emphasize through various scenes that Caim still has some standards, is still capable of forming relationships, and despite his bloodlust generally won't attack someone so long as they don't strike first or do something to incense him. That's only scratching the surface of his character in my story, of course, but I digress.
Geeze, in the case of making Caim like the Plain Doll, it'd be oddly fitting in a twisted way with how I'm guessing this is the Automata era and how it's all but outright stated that androids like A2 9S, and 2B were based on Kaine, brother Nier, and possibly even Yonah. That description makes it feel like we'd have gotten Earth-grown android Caim if that came to pass.
Hearing that the Earth also wasn't cognizant of that whole power dynamic till maso came into the picture makes me wonder if the Earth only gained sentience when maso came into the picture
Also very curious to know just how all the Earth's prodding and trying to change him effected Caim's mind, especially since it apparently effected an existing part of his mind.
In any case, thanks for responding and you can be certain that I'm looking forward to the next chapter!
Hahaha my apologies for the slow going next chapter, your comment response is a thrill to read though!!
Yes your correct that Earth wasnt really "aware" of her own conciousness until maso. I suppose the best way to put it is that she had been in a dissositive state and this was the "shock" to push her into awareness.
Also on the topic of Caim, yeah I agree!! I enjoy the aspect of his blood lust but it isnt indiscrimiate, ya know? He has people he wont kill unless hes pushed. I kinda think Verdelet and Inuart are characters that fall into that catagory initally. Though, obviously within the fact that Caim is starting to resent those he left behind as he is somewhat consumed by this Earth, he no longer feels like certain people are completely off the list. Say Furiae. If it means that he can leave this torture he'll kill her whereas he mightve not been so inclined to formally.
Earths prodding definately affected his mind. Its something that Caim is somewhat weak with as he is subseptive to his emotions, though he tends to cave easier to anger.
I deeply enjoy reading your thoughts!!! Thank you again for commenting, again apologies for any typos i am, once again, on my phone
