Comment on Warning Signs

  1. ok let's start with the tags bc I LOVE THEM. canon divergence? beloved. friends with benefits? BELOVEDST BELOVED. not sure what else to call it right now? yes ur speaking my language. ambiguous/open ending hellllll yeah. prophetic visions? or maybe just hallucinations??????? AGNOSTICISM?????????????????????????

[lies down on ground] i feel so loved

    Then the thing struck.

There was no other way to explain it. At one moment, it was a tear in the air before them, a slit that might close at any moment. The next the edges seemed to unravel, lashing out in every direction. B’Elanna leapt back, but Laren wasn’t quite as quick. A rust-colored lightning bolt sliced through the air, striking her across the chest.

this paints such a great mental image. i love the pairing of "unravel" with "lash," and *rust*-colored lightning bolt, holy shit, incredible. then! it hits!!! HER CHEST!!!!!! the way b'elanna just GOES for her too, and the flailing scramble backwards. god. my heart.

Laren was dead weight on top of her, but at least she wasn’t dead weight; B’Elanna could hear her breathing, could feel an erratic heartbeat beneath her palm.

^file under tiny details that have me going feral

It was possible, surely, to be Bajoran and believe there was no greater guidance.

i love this i love this i love this SO MUCH. i've rock tumblered this concept in my head since i wrote a religious doubt/disbelief piece involving ro in january and it's so !!! to see it out here in the wilds, expressed so succinctly. you did in 14 words what i took almost 3000 to say. incredible.

They were Maquis, and while they might be loyal to the ship from necessity, they were first and foremost loyal to one another.

zhwkjrhkwejfhwkejhqkwdjasdj AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MAQUIS LOYALTY. LOYALTY FROM NECESSITY. THE WAY THE MAQUIS LOYALTY PROBABLY STARTED FROM NECESSITY TOO BUT GREW INTO SOEMTHING CHOSEN. je screm

can i just say that b'elanna sitting by the bedside of a friend holding their hand and watching them sleep is one of the tenderest most wrenchingly beloved images i have ever had put in my head

B’Elanna nudged her way past the doctor and grabbed Laren’s hand, pulling it toward her own heart. It was something another Bajoran had taught her, something that might not work at all because her own heart was racing wildly and might not calm Laren down at all.

this is such a kira thing. omg was this meant to be a kira thing. all i can think about is kira teaching this to b'elanna and i am cryinggggg

Knocking was their little signal, 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

The hug was quick, the kiss quicker still, and before long they were both nestled on B’Elanna’s bed. Ro was still in her uniform, but B’Elanna was only half-dressed. She must have been getting ready for bed when Ro came.

Maybe she had been sitting up, waiting for her arrival.

    KEJHKJHEKFJHKEJFHKEDJFDKJFNDKJFN I LOVE IT HERE

this whole end scene, please just picture me keysmashing and wailing, wait, let me see if i can find a visual aid:

yeah that is me. i love how tender they are with each other here, how familiar, how casual and intimate their touch is and how it's grounded in the platonic. this makes me so HAPPY, and mixing the religious doubt, the questioning, the uncertainty coupled with a gut-rending certainty that something's wrong-- skdjfskdfhs it's so good, thank you, thank you so much!

    1. It's not deliberately Kira, but I'm definitely open to that interpretation! I'm so glad you enjoyed it; I came up with the idea of visions while I was driving, and I kept going back and forth between whether it worked or whether it was too weird. (When I was sure it worked, though, it was a delight to work on!) Not sure what else to call it felt like a mood for both of them because both Ro and B'Elanna have so much else to think about.
