Comment on Catastrophe Theory

  1. id: picrew of a white person with short brown hair and glasses, on a bg of the nonbinary pride flag.

    1. It also doesn't help that they're not really seen interacting with anyone but Ichigo, Urahara, and various enemies in canon. On the bright side, that does leave a lot of open characterization-space to work with - as long as their canon characterizations (behaviors, speech patterns, motivations) are basically intact, you're free to fill in the blanks.

And back to this specific interaction, lbr: Shinji is occasionally a stand-out in melodrama, even for this setting. (He thinks he's v v sneaky, which he is; but then he thinks he's always the sneakiest person in any given situation, which he might not always be.) Yoruichi wouldn't mind playing along / humoring him, bc she knows his personality is just 87% bullshit, and it's not like she's never put up with bs to get stuff out of people before. Also, they are somewhat alike in being screwed over by Aizen, which (plus working together in the past) is enough to get them working together fairly amicably.
It might even /help/ a bit that Kisuke isn't around, because certain elephants are not directly in the room right now. (Though Yoruichi isn't quite as skilled at not-acknowledging the metaphorical elephants, herself.) ...really, Kisuke's absence is just as present in this scene as Shinji (who is actually /there/) is. Yoruichi and Kisuke's relationship is definitely meaningful and really important to both of their characters, but it's kind of effed-up.

    4. *nods* Got it.

    5. Yeah, I got the pun. I just wasn't reading it with a quite bitter-enough tone.

    9. Yeah... third-person plurals are generally -os/-as; just putting that out there.

      1. Yeah, they're really weirdly isolated that way. I can understand why, since they don't really consider themselves part of Soul Society anymore, and they're there pretty much solely to help beat down Aizen, but it does make things a bit tougher.

Also, I think you're right re: the specific scene. Plus Yoruichi is way better with people than Kisuke is in general, so this part at least is probably going a little smoother than in canon.

      5. Ah, I see. Sorry I overexplained then.

      9. Note taken. :)

        5. It's fine! I really was confused, just not about the /pun/.

        9. ...and I forgot about the neutral-ish 3P plural "-es". *facepalms at self*
