GAWWWWWD this fic is going to stay in my brain forever I think. First, not only are you a FANTASTIC writer, but you're also so kind as to respond to every single comment. I read them all and I just love how passionate you are. Plus, I love reading all your insights that might not make the story. Second, and I know this has been said many times already, but the characterization is just so on point. During the scene where Corio and Sej are walking home, there was a moment when I genuinely wondered if I was reading dialogue written by Queen Suzanne Collins herself. Love love love it.
Also, the tension I feel whenever Sej and Corio interact is SO rich. It's so clear that Corio is up to his usual manipulative shenanigans and Sej is just EATING it up. I couldn't help but notice, like you mentioned in another comment, how different Corio's approach is. You had mentioned loyalty, but what struck me most was the lack of formality. When Corio goes "Wow Sejanus" at the beginning - that's what really did it for me. It's not OUT-of-character, but it's just skewed ever so slightly from the way we are used to hearing Corio talk. And it's SO OBVIOUS he's doing it intentionally!!! It really creates an eerie sense of suspense that I just can't get enough of.
Also, ALSO, THE LAST 2 LINES GAAH. The parallels, author. They're paralleling. I cannot wait to see where this goes, and thank you thank you thank you for being so committed and so kind to us readers. <33
also also also (edit) I love ur pfp teehee snoopy our king
!!! Omg thank you so much! First things first, I absolutely LOVE getting to interact with all you readers. I love getting to see what stuck out to everyone and talking about my thought process behind things, especially if they (like you said) might not make it into the story. I have so much fun thinking about this fic so I like sharing in that fun by talking about it with you all too :)
Your compliments about my characterization are actually too kind!! Like, hearing that you thought that some of the dialogue was good enough to even compare to Suzanne Collins' own stuff??? When I first read this notification at work it took everything in me to not visibly freak out. So thank you very very much for that
And I know I'm literally the author and actually in charge of what's going on in the fic but every time Sejanus is like "Coryo is so nice and good to me!! We're best friends!!" in this fic it's like I'm on the other side of a one way mirror, banging on the glass screaming "Sejanus! Get out of there!!!!" but he can't hear me. Unfortunately for us, Coriolanus has sunk his claws into Sejanus, and Sejanus sees those claws as him being wrapped in the hug he's always wanted. And yes!! Coryo is 100% leaning into the playfulness of friendship with Sejanus. He's not *actually* letting his guard down/becoming more casual, but he knows how friends are with each other (and more importantly the type of Sejanus wants): playful ribbing, relaxed attitudes, vulnerability, etc so he's going to play into that. There's a tidbit I have planned that should be coming up within a couple of chapters that's like, not a big plot point, but is related to this concept so I'm glad you're already pointing it out!
The parallels are paralleling!!! Cue me yelling for Sejanus to get out of there, round 2. I've obviously pointed out the parallel between Highbottom and Sejanus quite explicitly in this fic, but honestly in canon I think about their parallels too. Just two people wracked with guilt and who hate the Games who are then betrayed by their "best friend."
Also, yes hello fellow Snoopy lover <3 King indeed, he can do no wrong
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment! I really appreciate it
