Tenten *is* overlooked!! She's established as a kunoichi who takes herself seriously from the start, and while she isn't able to reach her initial goal of becoming Tsunade, she develops her own skillset and achieves her own dreams.
Beyond the sealing I'm focusing on here, she's one of the only kunoichi we see who focuses on like melee weapons?? like at all? From my notes, we've got Temari; the dead Kiri swordswoman, Ameyuri Ringo; Kumo's Samui; and... idk who else. I'm not committed enough to re-read the manga and mark whenever a woman has a weapon she doesn't have to throw!! but like. there's a gender thing there imo.
tbh Tenten is the Naruto of Team Gai. just without the subsequent connections or power-ups 3 (Neji is Sasuke, and teacher's pet Lee is, of course, Sakura)
...actually yknow I'm thinking about my selection for the study group and realizing they're all characterized as collectors .... Kakashi copies techniques; Kabuto steals DNA/bloodlines; Tenten buys weapons, all of them take them from everywhere interesting. love that for them.
