Comment on Who Shall Return Us The Children?

  1. I mean I intend to once I work out how to communicate it without stupid amounts of blatant exposition, so it will happen in time - it just depends on how my writing ability develops!

A lot of the difference can be put down to the relative 'tameness' of magic in both worlds I think - in hp, it's regulated with spells etc, but in asoiaf it seems like something that has to be clawed from the fabric of the world and always has a price (unlike all save the most powerful magic in hp), so I think it boils down to magic being more powerful in Westeros but sacrificing a lot of control. Like, I can't imagine any asoiaf magic person using magic to knit anything, the wool would catch on fire or something. I don't know if I've conveyed that adequately, but that's the main difference.

Much as I love both the Blacks and the Greens, they absolutely did blow it. Idiots.
Hmmmm. I think they wouldn't like the fact that her mother is Dornish - for all the show made Criston Cole Dornish, I just don't think that any of the main Dance Targs/Velaryons would be particularly happy about her Dornish blood (or the fact that she's so close with her Dornish kin). Rhaenys would probably be overjoyed to finally have another woman in the family who isn't politically stupid. Helaena would be happy to have someone else who's a bit weird and creepy. I feel like Daeron and Rhaenyra's first three would be varying levels of awe and puppy-like excitement because let's be honest, she's cool. Viserys would be doting on yet another descendant (unaware that she sees him like Rhaegar and thus is ready to tear his throat out at any given moment), Daemon would initially be excited about a little girl (particularly if she meets them after the death of the other Visenya), but would probably quickly get creeped out by her - same for Aegon, but I get the feeling Aemond would also dote on her. Rhaena and Baela would be a bit weirded out but okay with her. I think? Maybe? Not 100% sure on all of these - any thoughts?

It would be Very Fun. I might write it as a one-shot or short fic at some point?

    1. Oh, I agree with that.
HP magic and ASoIaF magic are very different. I will be interested to see how you show these differences.
I hope that Visenya will have its own Valyrian steel and Glass candle.

Hmm, I think Visenya would have admired Rhaenys to some extent, like that one, after all, they are not stupid, and I understand that Rhaenys also did not want to marry anyone in the family (she had 2 male cousins!)
I think she would have liked Helaena too, and she would have immediately understood that she was saying prophecies (remember Trelawney), and she would not have been scared by bugs (for God's sake, her friend was Luna Lovegood)
With Rhaenyra, then Visenya would definitely envy her, she was called an heiress, she was given the freedom to choose her husband, she had a lot of cards in her hand, then Rhaenyra ruined everything, So there would be envy and strong contempt from Visenya.
With three "strong" boys, it would be more difficult here, on the one hand they are not bad people, but rumors about them, and about their origin, would leave a lot of room for doubt.
I think on the one hand she would feel sorry for Aemond, and the fact that he was bullied, on the other hand she would not like his adult version, and especially the fact that he sets a big dragon on a small one. Well, he would rather admire her character.
With Daemon, it would be more difficult here too, but for the most part she would see an expressive boy who can't control himself. But yes, he should be wary of her.
With Baela, it's more difficult here, on the one hand they might like each other, on the other they would clash foreheads.
With Rhaena, everything would be OK here.
Aegon, she would hate him, his attitude towards the family, and the way he behaves even with the servants. She would have nailed him for sure. And the one who would be afraid of her.
Viserys, she would hate him too, especially because he is so intentionally blind, tries to please everyone, and rules so-so, so to speak, carries the remnants of Jaehaerys.
Otto's peaceful rule, she would admire him, but she would hate him too.
Alicent, maybe when she was young, she felt sorry for that, but she would have despised the adult version for hypocrisy.
Oh, if she had been told something about her mother, it would have been "fire and blood" 😁

I think she scared everyone there, except Viserys, who is intentionally blind.

I've been thinking about what kind of nicknames Visenya might have.
      1. Survivor / Lived (similar to "The Girl who lived, and which she can't stand)
      2. The Queen of fire and blood.
      3. The Sorceress(either Blessed or Cursed)
      4. The regenerator of the dynasty (let's see what further Targaryens will come from her, from Jon no, for political reasons, not from Daenerys, after the ritual and dragons, she will not be able to have children, and Viserys simply will not want).

I'm sure it would be a lot of fun!
I hope that at least in the form of a short story we will see.

      1. Hope I don't disappoint!!!! We'll have to wait and see on the Valyrian steel and glass candle front...

She would absolutely have admired Rhaenys! I think you've really nailed her as a character with the way you've imagined her reactions to the various characters, probably better than I could have imagined them to be honest. And yeah, while she would have felt a bit sorry for Alicent, she would have definitely had too much Lyanna trauma to ever really like her.
What do you mean by 'if she had been told something about her mother'? Sorry, I'm really tired and some words have lost all meaning for me, A level prep is murdering my brain haha, sorry.

Oh absolutely. When she left, everyone was like 'oh thank goodness' and breathed a sigh of relief, and Viserys was like 'oh what a shame she's gone, such a sweet girl, I hope she's alright wherever she is, she really needs someone to look after her, like poor dear Aemma needed me'. And everyone looked at him like he was mad.

Hmmm, the idea of a link to her hp identity would be fun...
Oooh I do like the idea of 'Queen of Fire and Blood'.
Sorceress, is sadly, too close to what I've imagined people will call one of her daughters actually. It's really badass and I love it, but people would get it confused with her daughter when said daughter comes along later :(
She will definitely regenerate the dynasty, that's for sure (although I do plan for Viserys to actually have children, all with very pointed names haha)

It might be a short story at some point. I might do it now if I get sick enough of my revision actually!

        1. Thanks!
What can I say, sometimes I just like to talk about characters like that.

Oh, I meant that you said that the Targaryens of Dragon Dance didn't like that her mother was Martell, and that she was close to that side of the family, and it was logical to assume that if someone personally said something negative to Visenya about her mother, then it would be "fire and blood."

          I know!
When someone says her nickname, similar to GWL, and she makes such a disgruntled face, according to the canon of HP, I didn't like this nickname myself.
Well, the "Queen of Fire and Blood", I was prompted by the first chapters of the first part of the story, Gleba Visenya argues that Rhaegar promises her to be the queen of Aegon, the corroded one and blood. Many authors resort to this technique, at the beginning they write hints about who the hero may be at the end.

Hmm, actually, for her, even the fact that Viserys will have children can also be dangerous, because his descendants can also rebel against the traditions of the Andals, like Jon, respectively. Unless he publicly and then in writing renounces his claim to the throne and his descendants.

I was thinking that when she ascends the throne, she will deprive the Baratheons of their last name, if baby Shireen survives, then Visenya will return them the surname of another ancestor - Durrandon.
The Baratheons ascended thanks to the Targaryens, and the Targaryens themselves will overthrow them.
Well, the main message is that Visenya erases the Baratheon family name, and they become a story, a story with a good beginning and an instructive ending.

Oh, I'll be waiting for this short story. It will be interesting to see how Visenya has grown up, without having to hide, her relationship with her sister and brother, what and how it will be with Viserys and Daenerys, who are also safe.

          1. Well you do it amazingly!

Ahhh right. Yeah, they'll learn pretty quickly not to badmouth elia

oooh I do like this. you're picking up on things that I didn't haha

that's true, but I feel like she also does need to establish more branches in case another tragedy strikes - if she and her children die, the closest relatives are Martells. I guess she'd just make sure to marry Viserys' branch in to hers (when enough generations have passed) to keep them from rebelling? Idk, it might be that the risk outweighs the gain, but it would be a good backup

hmmm I hadn't thought of changing their names, but that is a good idea....

it would be fun wouldn't it...
