In the Ultimania's and in-game lore there is mention that humans were once ancients who lost the ability to "commune with the Planet." Considering the Cetra went into "hiding" after the first almost Calamity, I wouldn't be surprised if they intermingled with the human race.
Nibelheim as a village so close to such a large Mako spring and that large natural materia, I can't help but wonder if the Cetra were once there too. Not to mention the Nibelheim myth of the dead making their way over the mountain, it can be connected to an entry-point for the Lifestream. And perhaps the truth of the myths origins got lost to time, legends and myths are like that :), rooted in truth but filled with a fog of unknown. Anyway that's my fun little fanon/theory relating to Nibelheim. Much like yourself, I wouldn't be surprised if they do have Cetra in their ancestry, perhaps many family lines do. Though with so many generations, its safe to say they are firmly human - but with the potential for something "more."
