I've pulled out my red string and my conspiracy board, here's my theory. Alastor and Charlie were a couple who were happily in love. Just like a classic Disney couple, being around them could make you feel happy too. But Bernard loved Charlie and was jealous that she chose Alastor instead of him. So he killed Charlie and Alastor, but then regret and grief caused him to bring Charlie back to life. He planned to make her revived self fall in love with him, but Charlie rejected him—whether she has her memories or not I don't know, but I'm leaning towards "no memories, but still has her emotions"—and ran away from him which caused her to run into Anthony. Or...replace the person who loves Charlie with someone else, like Seviathan, who killed her and then hired Bernard to revive her.
I don't know how Alastor would factor into this but my first guess would be that the power of love (for Charlie) and rage (at being killed) causes him to come back and he goes on a rampage looking for his missing lover because they were supposed to be buried together but when he wakes up, her body's been stolen and he wants it back. Knowing how Frankenstein goes, this story's going to have a body count and so far I'm going to say that it's going to be Alastor and Bernard competing for it.
I honestly thought that the figure Vaggie saw was Alastor looking into her house to see if it was Charlie. That would've been terrifying since I don't know what Alastor would've done. He's kind of this looming presence for me because I know he's going to show up and something's going to go down when he does but I don't know when or how.
I wonder how Vaggie and Anthony are going to hide the latter and Charlie, because Vaggie could get in trouble for letting them in and Charlie and Anthony could get in trouble for "trespassing" even if that's not the case. They could say Charlie's a new hire or something, but I don't know if Charlie's okay enough to go along with that lie. Maybe they could explain the situation, but it feels like Vaggie's employer may not be as nice as Vaggie was. I could be wrong though. We'll see next chapter.
