Moon says at one point that "an iterator drinks a river" but I think that might be more of a euphemism than anything else. She notes that she's never seen a natural river in the next sentence.
Shoreline isn't that deep either; it's only a couple screens in most locations, only an unknown depth right around and in the can, going down into Submerged Superstructure and (probably) the aquifer itself. And while we know it wraps around to the other side of Moon, I wouldn't count it as any bigger than a single river could create.
Rivers can be very, very large, and any river on this planet would be significantly inflated by iterator rains.
You might still be right about a river not being big enough to support an iterator; however it's kinda too late to change the map now.
There are four iterators technically on this river system. Intrinsic Reality and Restful Leaves do actually get their water from the river (IR directly, RL through a large abandoned canal). The canal is more of a river in its own right now, since it flows very fast as water is sucked up by RL.
ABQ gets part of his water from the river, but also a lot of it from the swampland around his can, which is fed mostly from the ocean close by to his west.
Additionally, Fifteen Bones is kind up to the northeast, but he largely gets his from groundwater. His tributary starts basically under his can, partially as a result of his rains.
