  1. Quiet is definitely not having the best time, all things considered. He really is trying his best. The wildlife are definitely more accustomed to living with the little ones than he is, that’s unmistakable; but nevertheless he really wasn’t given a proper chance. Everyone either discredits his abilities or distrusts him immediately just because he’s huge, and then winds up having to explain the most horrific part of his shared backstory with the ghost in the literal fridge to the newcomers. Definitely does wind up painting a genuinely gracious host as the villain inadvertently. Not Spectre’s intention, of course! But there are consequences for every action. At least it seems that they’ll be more comfortable now knowing that they’re safe with *ahem* his very domineering wife.

I think Spectre was very intriguing for the sake that I wasn’t wholly restrained to cannon in how I had to work with her here for sure. Given that I was working with a lot of life-and-death theming, the “murder mystery” element seemed like it would make more sense to go for than just “how do ghosts exist” since that gets a touch existential. Subversion is really what’s been nifty about writing a lot of this; getting to take what looks like a classic murder and go “oh nope, that’s my husband. We’re just rehearsing this a lot more because usually people get too frightened to even speak to me/you’re two of the first.” In essence, I would presume Witch is the only one who got as far as the whole image-projection half-possession stuff. And I’m an absolute dork for getting to use all the vessels’ abilities in new ways.

(When I was first writing Witch & Spectre’s interaction I actually. Cried a little. Because I am not accustomed to writing Witch so soft and childish with wonder. Broke my lil heart sm aaa)

Smitten is always a lovely little lad to write no matter the place I put him at. He’s such a charming little dude, even if he comes off very intense and passionate at inappropriate and alarming times. I think the fact he always does show genuine care for the women he courts/tries to set up/situate parentally in this case too makes him very human and interesting to write; I feel for him and his little heartfelt antics. Although of course he isn’t the only one trying to matchmake for sure… I couldn’t resist giving Spectre a bit of a flirtatious edge to her, given that’s kinda her forte in cannon. A little offputting, but also very humorous and with genuine good intent here.

Forgive the perpetual rambling about my own damn fic anyways hsksks tysm again Spooky got my wheels turning again.
