    The stories of people does sound much nicer than history. Perhaps I'll look into some more books like that.

    That sounds like a lovely memory, I love the way music brings people together like that.

    1. If you want something out of the box, Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Nah, is very good and nothing like any of the Cinderella stories you might know. It's an autobiography about an unwanted daughter growing up in China.

      Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges is a story about what it took to desegregate schools in the American South. Also an auto biography.

      And I always recommend looking up the story of Sybil Luddington- she was a colonial girl who's story was overshadowed by Paul Revere, even though she rode farther than he did to share the same news!
