Comment on Requiem in Reverse

  1. First, let me start off with the basic feelings this made me feel:

WOOF BARK WOOF BARK BARK GRR WOOF BARK SNARL BARK BARK WOOF BARK WOOF GRR WOOF AWOOOO WOOF WOOF BARK WOOF. arf.

With that out of the way, I'll try to be more literate, but I make no promises.

I fucking love this. This is currently the fuel that is keeping me going. This is the "never kill yourself" meme but made for ME. I love Faux and all 4 of his in game lines (I haven't actually counted, but BRC is fond of Less is More in terms of character dialogue). And you manage to flesh out the interesting, if bare-bones characterization from the games into something legitimately quite compelling. In ways I relate a bit too much too, because like Faux, I too, am cringe.

Seriously though, I am absolutely in love with how you're pacing all of this. It reads like a character study based off of what lead Faux to doing what he did, while also having the benefit of it all being in hindsight, rather than a straight telling of it. You add drama into the right moments, and while I know to be patient, by god I feel like you're boiling me alive. I hate you for it and I will do anything for you.

*smokes the fattest cone you ever did done see* Now here's where I go into my pointless conspiracy nonsense where I get too autistically excited about a story and go so insane that I start making up my own interpretations of it, because while I believe you're using Leviathan in the term of It's a Cool Fucking Word. I can't help but continuously read it as a reference to Leviathan in the sense of Thomas Hobbes book. Where the Leviathan was a metaphor of social harmony under a single sovereign, or King, in this case. And the Faux Leviathan seeks to crown itself as king and end the war of all against all- By just killing anyone who opposes it. Bringing order to a system who's foundations are built out of chaos and constant change and competition. I use the term Faux Leviathan here as both meanings, to be completely clear.

This is more an analysis of the actual final boss in game, rather than your fic- But something that interested me about the design of Algo Faux is that aside from his head, the entire design is basically *all* roots. Aside from the arms you tear off, it's a formless snake of wires without end. And with the context of what Faux's roots *are*, it's interesting that in his worst form, he is basically consumed by them all. And even if that body was amazingly powerful, the entire time he was *still* looking for his OWN body. I mean, during the events of BRC, Red was called to be using a body that was *meant* to be under police custody.

Anyway, thanks. I'm really normal about all of this.
