I READ FOURTH WING! It’s good! I’m not in love with it but I like it and I’m looking forward to reading Iron Flame… as soon as I can get my hands on the paperback 😅 But I LOVE the changes you made in you story cause those felt like they made more sense. It’s the little details that I’m like why wasn’t that made clear in the book?? Or maybe it was and I wasn’t paying attention but I swear it doesn’t mention that the General cause the bad weather even thought it’s kinda implied. But reader doesn’t know that she can control storms at that time so to make that connection later when you do learn about her signet might not happen! But I felt like this moment really helps the reader understand her character!! And that just didn’t happen clearly in the book!!! WHY?!? WHAT?!? So I’m glad you made the connection clear and did it beautifully!!
I also love how Atsumu isn’t like Violet, who is small and fragile so she struggles a lot, but rather already a badass since that makes more sense as to who Atsumu is. LOVE THAT!!! I love how you seamlessly added all the Haikyuu characters while still staying pretty true to who they are!
Also, I swear that on Presentation Day the ropes were still there for them to use… GURL!! MY HEART!! Raising the stakes like that?!?! HURTS SO GOOD!!!
Another plot change that I thought was GENIUS and made so much more sense to foreshadow what will happen later is when Atsumu was in the generals office and saw the map and noticed all the red and was like wtf?? THAT is such a better way to establish that command KNOWS what’s going on. Like yeah we figure it out in the book but I think the way you did it was better. ITS THE LITTLE DETAILS LIKE THIS that make this story better, in my opinion.
Also I already love the characters, so I’m invested from the beginning. LIAM was one of my FAVORITES!! MY BOYYY!! 💔 that one hurt! I hope there’s no Liam in this 🥺 or even Jack… I hope Oikawa has a different character arc 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 ALSO ALSO I LOVE that there’s no FUCKING DAIN in this shit. FUCK HIM!!!

There’s definitely some stuff that I got confused about while I was reading FW, so I tried addressing those things in a different way, or adding detail that I felt was lacking. I’m glad you appreciate the extra detail/foreshadowing I’m trying to add!
When I had the idea for Sakuatsu-fying the story I knew that Atsumu would be a completely different character than Violet, so making changes/upping the stakes for a physically stronger character has been a very fun challenge! (ROPES!? WE DONT NEED NO STINKING ROPES!!)

I suppose Kita would be the closest to Dain as Atsumu’s protective best friend (but I’m not going to explore anything romantic there beyond Atsumu formerly having a crush)
