Comment on Don’t wander too far, dear heart, or I will be left behind

  1. Oh, I kind of wanted someone to call Jupiter out on his failures as a guardian! I mean, I love him dearly, but he failed Mog many times.

I wonder how Squall will react if Morrigan shows up at his doorstep though.

Yeah! He's amazing but he is probably the second most absent parent ever (after corvus). Also you'll have to see how he reacts! He has so much plot purpose and I love it

      1. Well, technically Corvus wasn't absent parent, just neglectful. He was physically present in the same house as Morrigan most of the time. just emotionally unavailable. Jupiter in a way is a mirror image: when he is there, he provides support and attention, the problem is that he's there like 50% of the time at most.

Yeah that's fair! It just sucks that the one time Morrigan does get a good family it doesn't last. Sure Jupiter has his moments at the end of the books (like covering Morrigan's ears in the museum of stolen moments to shield her from Israfel's singing) but that's it. He'd be awesome if he was there but he's not and that's what inspired this whole fic!

          1. Sadly, Jupiter is a victim of the plot :( If Jupiter was always awesome and there, Morrigan would have never go to Squall for help. Unless Jupiter would have been the one in trouble and she would have to save him. But that would have been a very different book. And that's too many type 3 conditional phrases...

Jess please give us a complete AU where Jupiter is free of plot

              1. Hmmm, let's see.
                - Jupiter refuses to subject Morrigan to Safe Guard pack, so book 1 mostly doesn't happen. Morrigan goes to normal school with Jack.
                - When Morrigan suddenly starts breathing fire and such, and also collect crazy amount of Wunder, Jupiter bothers to do research, finds out that it is not safe for her and contacts the "basement nerds" for ideas. Also, Morrigan is not abused at school. So book 2 also doesn't happen as is, though I bet Squall still comes up with something.
                - When Hollowpox happens, Jupiter keeps Morrigan out of public eye and if WunSoc tries to throw her under the bus, he raises publicity hell, leaning over his vast and important connections. Morrigan isn't super invested in what is happening anyway: she has her math midterms to worry about.
