    wow! I've been following this fic on FFN for a little while, so it was a pleasant surprise to see it up on Ao3! I love this, how you describe just how alien Shadow is, the emotions, the whole thing! <3

      Aww, thank you! Yes! The foreign and off-putting feeling of Shadow was something I wanted to channel! His point of view would be terrible at describing it in how I wanted, so poor Gerald has to pic up the slack. As for the emotions and the setting, I'm so glad you're enjoying it! I was a little worried that the brackets [ stuff here ] might be confusing, and writing in a super smart guy's pov is certainly an exercise in word building!

      As for the xfer over, a buddy of mine told me that FF.net was basically 'dead' and explained to me a crash course about Ao3. It took a few days to get an account over here - and I was genuinely shocked at how active the communities are here. It's been a hot minute since I've done fan fiction, so FF's trials and tribulations are a surprise to me!

        Yeah, FFN has been kinda fading badly because it isn't really keeping up with the times and keeps getting absolutely riddled with ads. Still has a pretty large selection of fics from older fandoms that you can't find here, but at this point I've started downloading them to dodge the ads and in case FFN finally kicks the bucket.

        Definitely curious about where you're going here given that both Maria and Shadow seem to remember a future that isn't yet. Honestly kinda surprised Maria hasn't just told Gerald - given the craziness the old man has seen and done, he might be skeptical but would at least try to test her story.

          Yeah. FF can't even handle some of the later chapters without crashing. :( RIP old site. I got some really really really old, bad fan fics there I need to save before they're gone. The amount of THIS [INSERT TITLE HERE] STORY IS SO GOOD FOR [GENERIC REASONS TO MAKE COPY AND PASTE WORK]. HERE'S MY COMMISSION NAME HIRE ME TO MAKE YOUR A COMIC/ ILLUSTRATION. THIS TOTALLY ISN'T A SCAM spam messages are out the wazoo. Annoys the crap out of me.

          As for THIS story...

          Maria actually can't talk about it to Gerald. :) The further you get into the story, the more the reader comes to figure out/gets hints about what's going on and how dangerous things have become...

            Getting a disturbing sense that either Doom also came back or his current self has managed to pick some concerning information from Shadow's mind while he was out of it. Which could be a massive problem if Doom develops the intelligence to keep a spare vessel literally anywhere other than the Black Vomet or the ARK where Shadow can find it, given how Doom's immortality works.
