    Yes!!! I think a lot of the fandom doesn’t understand that Rose’s decision to have Steven and disappear stemmed from a place of self hatred and could even be described as a suicide attempt - because that’s not how she’s portrayed in the show, because those around her who we learn about her from didn’t understand it themselves. But no one who is happy and likes their life makes a choice that they know will kill them, and is so firm in that decision they follow it through for nine months

      Yessss. Thank you! I had the same thought. I didn't want to say it, but i definitely see suicidal tendencys. The video she made for Steven, imo, made it even more clear. The self loathing is subtle but I saw it so clearly. I also love the backwards character development, but that is also a reason the self loathing was subtle.

        Exactly, and my take on it (I believe I even say it in a later chapter but I don’t remember) is that she thought she could take herself out AND bring someone better then her into the world in one go. In her mind it was the best thing she could ever do with her life, die to create someone actually decent - and she knew her child would be better then her because she believed just about everyone was better then her.
        It’s so sad, and it’s so sad that none of the people closest to her understood it for what it was.
        Pearl only saw Rose leaving them and was so caught up in that, and in the image she had of Rose, she didn’t see the hurt. Greg knew Rose as this loving, benevolent being who spoke of change and growth and the beauty of humanity and likely believed her when she spouted some philosophical junk about how wonderful it was to be able to do this. Garnet and Amethyst were just confused and hurt.
        No one considered that there was more to it, because Rose had never let on that there could be more to it.
        Anyway, sorry for the ramble!!! I can talk about Rose’s choice to have Steven forever lol
