This was really cool! I love the imagery, the feeling put into it. You've captured that non-human POV so well, he feels so alien and strange, but I love that we get that intelligence, that almost compassion. I find it so fascinating that he ended up being so impacted by the human lives he was not able to save, even though human lives are so small and insignificant. I love the idea that what counts as sentience also includes the ability for compassion and care for other beings. Which the movies do show snippets of that and you've captured it really well in this.
And then to have the whole thing wrap up with his own existential questions and musings made for a very artistic and beautiful closing to the fic.
You have a good grasp of inhuman POVs while still keeping it relevant and relatable to your human audience. It opens up those kind of existential thoughts about significance. Our significance. The significance of the other creatures that exist on the earth. I love this kind of stuff! You did such a good job!
Yeah, I kinda wanted to capture the feeling of like, knocking over a fish tank or animal exhibit. You don't feel the same way as if they were humans, but you still feel BAD. I feel like if a creature has any semblance of sociability, and Godzilla seemingly does (interacting with kaijus to not attack human cities and having collaboration with Mothra), then the creature must be able to be compassionate, even if it's not to the same extent when directed at others.
I love inhuman POVs precisely for putting in elements most people see as solely human into other creatures, existential thoughts included (but doing my best to make sure they come off as sufficiently inhuman, as I feel it defeats the purpose if they are basically human-acting in another body), so I'm glad you liked it! Thank you for reading!
