   I’m glad you liked it!

   You don’t strictly need to know both show/movie for this story, but it does help with some of the character references.

   For this it’s helpful to know Mulder is open to all sorts of folklore and especially alien phenomena explanation for FBI cases they investigate and goes by emotions a lot, while Scully is a somewhat bullheaded rationalist and skeptic.

   They both have trauma around kidnapping at this point in the series that this story happens, Mulder especially with his missing little sister.
