Comment on The King of Knights (ASOIAF Daemon Blackfyre SI)

  1. FYI, i hope that SI Daemon will be prepared for his greatest adversary to come........the most diabolical killer of humanity in all of history...............the Great Spring Sickness. ha.
I mean even if the Blackfyre rebellion is won and he is able to somehow both win and......even more difficult.......KEEP the Iron throne.......we know that that eventual pestilence is coming....and ends up killing more nobles and commoners than any war.

      1. Well I address it because it’s the thing that ends up killing him (and most of his kids) in pretty much ANY what if scenario that I’ve seen on YouTube where the content creators “let” him win on the Redgrass Field. And I’m just like, what was the f#

        1. …..was the point of him winning in the first place

        2. Yeah pretty much lel. It’s quite annoying. Have you any ideas on how the GSS should be handled here then?

          1. Hmmm.......well initially its hard to say, from the symptoms described in the books i think it would be something similar to the bubonic plague. And as medical practices in westeros basically have no preventative measures to stave off potential pestilence, i think that maybe that is where it should start.
Any bacterial disease like that would thrive in unsanitary conditions with a packed medieval populace, like Kings Landing.
And assuming the si wasnt some medical expert in his previous life, id say the most you could do is to immediately invoke more modern sanitation standards on the city populace. Not to mention upgrading the cities sewage system.
And preparations for when the sickness eventually comes need to be implemented. For example, something like this would have definitely come by foreign trading ships most likely, so find a way to lock down the ports to limit the spread of the disease at its source.
The list goes on. Though im no expert, but I think a little can go a long way.
If Daemon wins, he'll have 13 years before it hits, so despite everything I think he would have time to invoke change enough to lesson the blow that the sickness would have on Kings Landing.

            1. It deffo sounds like Martin's equivalent to the Black Death though apparently not nearly as pronounced as the Black Death given the lack of major societal change.

Yeah the city deffo has to be upgraded. It is possible the Citadel might be able to develop microscopes and germ theory given how they have telescopes and already sterilize wounds with boiling wine so that might help a little.

              1. Ehhh…..assuming that they could or even would develop a concept of germ theory, similar or equivalent to our worlds, they’d probably just monopolize it and keep it secret. This would make its practical application to Westeros not just difficult…..but straight up impossible. The Citadel is too politically focused to do anything else with it. (I don’t much like Barbrey Dustin, but I do think her distrust of the Maesters is pretty damn accurate.) This type of application would have to be universal to the realm with no bias between the classes of society, in order for it to be effective to even a minor degree.

Point being that the theory and practice would have to be pioneered specifically by the royal family and applied freely…..only after will the Citadel play ball, lest they lose face and appear even a little obsolete.

                1. I was actually thinking that Daemon would seize control of the Citadel and move them to the capital like Baelor did with the Faith. He would then use the Order of Maesters under royal control to propagate his innovations with royal backing.

                  1. Hmmmm, that idea could be possible. But seizing control of the Citadel would be difficult, to put it lightly. The Citadel is an independent institution with a monopoly on all things regarding information in the seven kingdoms. If not done carefully and cleanly the political fallout could be catastrophic for Daemon.
And like I said, the Citadel is too.....shady.....in my opinion to play nice in this regard.
Im just saying, we dont want Daemon dying of.....ummm......"natural causes" before the Spring Sickness even gets its shot.

                    1. So it could be said about the Faith and Baelor managed. There's definitely a way to accomplish it and Daemon is deffo too suspicious and paranoid to let himself get poisoned lel.
