I see. I’m still a bit confused. So if Bellatrix is 17, why is she attending first year Charms with Hermione? Or the other classes Bellatrix goes to with her? Is Bellatrix ditching her own classes to come to Hermione’s? And why are the professors letting 7th years into 1st year classes?
Bellatrix Black is a seventh-year. Hermione (as “Maris”) is a first-year. On paper, they should have no overlap. But Hogwarts isn’t as tightly run as it pretends to be — especially when it comes to the Blacks.
Bellatrix has a reputation. She’s allowed liberties others aren’t. Professors know better than to challenge her when she strolls into a first-year Charms lesson uninvited. She claims she’s “observing,” or “bored,” or “checking for weakness in the House.”
The truth? She’s watching Maris.
Her presence in Hermione’s classes isn’t scheduled — it’s personal. A test. A provocation. A game. Sometimes she leans against the back wall and never speaks. Sometimes she answers questions meant for eleven-year-olds just to throw the room off balance. Other times she sits beside Hermione and says nothing, but watches everything.
The staff lets it slide — partly out of fear, partly out of habit.
The students?
They’ve noticed.
And in Slytherin, when Bellatrix Black takes an interest, everyone pays attention.
