What can I say, I am a huge sucker for Nico dressed in full prince regalia. He would put a lot of minor gods to shame with how good he would look.
[Plus the idea of Zeus trying to patch things up with Hades through Nico?? That's so awkwardly sweet and peak Olympian nonsense.]
I would like to think that after the threats of the dad of Zeus and his siblings and Gaia are eliminated it actually sank in that Zeus could have lost his siblings and kids (the books were Apollo got turned into a human doesn't happen in this AU, tbh I would like to think that he was just very very strict to them but not as cruel like in the books [just typical ancient Greek parenting], you know what I mean? ) he goes a while to Crete where he was raised to think about what could have been and that he was behaving like his dad and kinda turning into him. So he tries to mend all of his relationships with all of them and earn their forgiveness. Then he remembers his favorite nephew, respectful and powerful Nico who is so much like he was when he was young, who can take up the ambassador role and act as a bridge (and olive branch) to Hades. But like he would be still a total asshole to everyone he doesn't consider family (which means everyone except the 12 Olympians + Nico).
[Bonus points if Apollo starts showing up conveniently whenever Nico's on Olympus like, “Oh? I didn’t know court was today. Totally just passing through.”]
Omg the side eye he would get from everyone would be legendary. Like imagine Zeus in the background just staring into the void at the simp (affectionate) behavior of his son.

Okay but listen… now I need to write “Zeus goes to Crete for character development” because that’s honestly the most unhinged and poetic thing I’ve read all week. Ancient god of thunder taking a spiritual retreat to process his daddy issues and then deciding “you know what? Time to apologize via soft nepotism” is peak Olympus energy.
And YES—Nico walking into court like it’s his runway and everyone else is just background blur? Correct. Canon. He doesn't need a throne; he is the moment.
Also Zeus calling Nico “my favorite nephew” while dead-eye glaring at Apollo as he “casually” loiters outside the council chamber like “oh hey didn’t see you there, Nico 😅” has me in TEARS. The mental image of Nico giving him that tired "you again?" look while Zeus mutters, “This is why I didn’t want to bring him,” in the background… chef's kiss.
And I’m genuinely honored that you reread Prince of the Underworld, I had left the fandom for many years before reclaiming my love for the series after reading the Trials of Apollo. Prince of the Underworld was my first fic back and it was a blast to see the many reactions from the readers. Ok but please make “Zeus goes to Crete for character development” a tag when you write it, because....it is begging to be one. The AU name should be something like: Processing daddy issues is just a side benefit
Omg now I imagine that Zeus has this mindset of "No one is good enough for Nico, except powerful gods who I personally tested" and this is what ultimately brings Zeus and Hades together - wait what would Poseidon think about his nephew? He would probably try to talk with Nico and build a relationship with him but Zeus is like "No you had your chance and your son broke his heart" while Nico is slowly but surely regretting his decision to tell his uncle about his former crush and so the life of Percy Jackson gets again harder as he know has to tell his dad why he "rejected" Nico (and didn't even notice the most obvious crush in history).
How would you think will the rest of the demigods react to the sudden shift in Zeus' personality regarding the 12 Olympians + Nico?
Also I must confess that most of the time we are on the same wavelength so it wasn't hard to feel comfortable to share my ideas with you.

Also the mental image of Zeus being like “No one is good enough for Nico unless they can pass my divine obstacle course of judgment and affection” is sending me. Like suddenly Nico is being followed around by a lightning-powered helicopter parent who will fight any god or mortal that so much as flirts with him. Poseidon trying to bond like “Hey champ, wanna talk?” while Zeus looms in the background muttering “You’re only here because your son fumbled.”
Nico just sitting there like: “Why did I say anything. Why did I open my mouth. Why.”
As for the other demigods reacting to Zeus suddenly being all “this is my precious nephew who I will die for”—I imagine a lot of blinking. A lot of uncomfortable shuffling. Probably some minor chaos in the cabins as people try to guess if they’re next to be adopted. Meanwhile Percy is dodging thunderbolts and reevaluating every interaction he’s ever had with Nico like a panicked man watching his life flash before his eyes.

Not only Zeus looks after Nico and his love life, but also Hera and Aphrodite, but like very differently.
While Zeus is overprotective as hell, they both try to matchmake Nico. Hera and Aphrodite are working together to find someone who is 100% faithful for all of eternity and will worship the ground Nico walks on....you know where I am going with this? Not only must the future partner be powerful but also must have a fraction of Odysseus' devotion for Penelope. (And of course Nico has to like them, for Nico they are all about consent 👍🏻)

....you know the scene I shared with you in the original comment? Maybe that is how they first find out? Like after greeting the gods the proper way, thanking for letting him attend in his father's name and sitting down Nico is getting grilled about his health from Zeus while the other gods are just ignoring this like it is normal (which it is at this point ig) and the demigods just staring at this.
Nico 100% is wearing a symbol of Hades, Persephone and Demeter (you could not convince me otherwise) on his person, after the retrieve at Crete from Zeus he will 100% will be forced to wear a symbol of him.
Zeus would probably demand that Nico's cabin (I think Hazel doesn't visit long/often Camp Half Blood, which means even less than Nico, so she sleeps mostly in the big house in the AU (I do not really know what to do with her tbh)) has to be rebuild as it is not good enough for Nico. During the new construction, Nico lives either at Heras cabin (she wants to have time with her darling nephew and to watch closely over him while he sleeps, as demigods can not be trusted in her eyes) or Zeus' (for obvious reasons). Or even better, Zeus just picks him up, like he is a smal kid, and says "For the first half of construction till to my and your fathers satisfaction you will be staying at Olympus and the second half in the underworld" and Nico just goes along with it while the other demigods are loosing their minds over this scene.
You always give me the best mental images omg. Nico being half-sweet-talked, half-kidnapped to Olympus while Hera supervises bedtime and Aphrodite’s matchmaking? Canon behavior. And YES to the whole cabin rebuild chaos. “This isn't favoritism,” Zeus says, holding blueprints with gold trim. “It’s justice.”
So I have finally time to discuss this AU further.....in one of your previous comments you said that Percy is thinking about every interaction with Nico....does that include the one time that he almost killed Nico or are we going to ignore this?
Also what is your opinion on Will? I personally hate him with a passion, because he is just behaving weird towards Nico from what I read online (talking about the relationship between Nico and Will) in the book snippets I sometimes see. Would he claim that it is not healthy for Nico to have this much contact with the gods, just like he says that Nico shouldn't use his powers (shadow traveling if I remember correctly), would he be jealous of his dad that he has a chance to woo Nico or would he help his dad?
And while we are on topic of living spaces for Nico in the camps I raise the possibility of a (in the eyes of the gods) "smal" ancient Greek palace in place of the cabin and in New Rome the same just in the Roman style. Speaking of the Romans, the Roman versions of the gods like Nico just as much as their Greek counterparts.
Ohhhhh imagine Nico showing the gods Epic: The musical (especially "Warrior of the Mind", "Wouldn't you like", "Ruthlessness", "Dangerous", "Get in the water", "God Games", "Thunderbringer"...in general all the songs with the gods in them) that would be so fun...but has also angst potential as Zeus would be confronted about how he is believed to be treating his children (Athena in this case) especially in God Games.....
No, not at all. Will is very sweet and kind to Nico. He tells him not to shadow travel because he almost died from using that power too much. Nico is still recovering and needs to rest and heal. Which is why Will tells Nico not to go to the Underworld, mostly because Nico needs the sun to heal. Will is a motherhen, a doctor in training all over Nico's health. He worries, he frets, but because he loves Nico. Hell, Will went to Tartarus for Nico. That pairing is sweet and perfect 🥰
Ahhh tbh with you I did not read much of the books (the writing style hurts to read personally) so many of my information on tehm are from online discussions and from a acquaintance of mine who loves them, so thank you for clearing that up...still do not like him he rubs me the wrong way from what I read in the book snippets online that I have read (tho you are right the paring is cute af). So we can say Will helps his dad to woo Nico in this AU, maybe by telling him what Nico likes?
That could be a good idea, instead of falling in love during the three infirmary days, they become close friends and Will wants Nico and his dad to be happy 😊
Like they become good friends and they both play smash or pass (of course they whisper because it is like the middle of the night and they do not want to wake up others) and Will jokingly says his dad's name when it is Nico's turn to answer and Nico says smash while getting really red. Later when Zeus had his character development and Will sees the simping for Nico from his dad he decides he will help his dad to bag Nico and to convince Hera, Aphrodite, Zeus, Hades and actually most of Olympus and the Underworld that Apollo is perfect for Nico
