Comment on tv taught me how to feel

  1. I never thought about how Alluka being locked up could affect the other kids (aside from Killua) but holy shit, yeah…it makes a lot of sense for Milluki to become wary of losing his place. The scene with Alluka barging into Milluki’s room and them watching a horror movie together was so unexpectedly sweet, and then the rest of the chapter killed me a little bit. This fucking family!!

    1. I just...can't imagine that it DIDN'T leave a huge impact on all the kids, in their own way, to suddenly see their younger sibling get locked in the basement, completely rejected and deemed useless despite possessing incredible power. The Zoldycks make their kids compete to be the best, but suddenly A) you can be punished for exceeding TOO hard, for being stronger than them, and B) you can be COMPLETELY cast aside and rejected if you fail to meet their standards or obey, not just being disowned and deemed no longer family but also having your basic HUMANITY denied. They call Alluka an "it," they treat her like an object or a monster, they're allowed to KILL HER. Silva and Kikyo made it SO CLEAR that the love of the Zoldyck family is conditional and not having it can basically be a death sentence.

And Milluki's DESPERATION to be acknowledged and loved by his family...don't get me wrong, it reads as a normal teenage boy who's too smart for his own good and doesn't get proper acknowledgement or stimulation. But also, once you know about Alluka, it makes PERFECT SENSE why Milluki is so determined to be the heir — he wants to know that he can't and won't be replaced or cast aside.

MIlluki and Alluka have what I imagine must be SHOCKINGLY similar tastes in media — Milluki clearly loves anime and has rather a lot of merchandise for female characters (even if SOME of it is clearly in an icky teenage boy way, he also canonically has a passion for Sailor Moon), and also I imagine probably likes horror. Which Alluka would too! I wanted them to have at least one cute bonding scene, both because I imagine that they COULD easily get along really well had their lives been different, and because then it makes all the bad things that happen even sadder.
