Comment on The Son Who Stayed

  1. Thank you for your comment! 😊

Regulus is my favourite too. We know so little about him, which leaves a lot of room to explore. In the best case, I like to think he did come to regret it ALL and tried to make things right. He really represents the idea that it’s never too late to change. In the worst case though… he’s more of a "von Stauffenberg type" (that man who tried to kill Hitler in real life): still an elitist, still convinced by the ideology, but disturbed by how far it all went, and tried to take out the leader rather than the system itself. Either way, his starting point is probably being a radicalised teen or someone pushed into it by pressure at home.

That said, I never really saw Orion and Walburga forcing Regulus into becoming a Death Eater. If they were that fanatical, they’d have joined up themselves. So in this version, he’s convinced of the cause ... at least at first.

I’ve given Regulus a worse case of “younger sibling syndrome” than Ron’s got in canon 😂 That’ll come through more in the next chapters. It must’ve been brutal having Sirius as an older brother, especially with parents like Orion and Walburga. I will show later that they do care about their son(s), in their own completely dysfunctional way. But at the moment they’re just furious. And terrified, deep down, that they’ve messed up so badly both their children tried to run away. Not that Walburga sees any fault in herself, of course 🙄

Thanks again for reading and taking the time to comment again. It really means a lot! 😍
