I just realized that I probably should provide at least some context to what I said– basically Celestine V was a monk living in asceticism until he was chosen as pope in 1294– because after the death of Pope Nicholas IV in 1292 the cardinals spent two whole years deliberating on who to elect as the new pope and Celestine, at the time known as Pietro, wrote them a letter telling them to pick someone already or God would strike them down for leaving the Church leaderless like this, and it impressed them so much they picked him to be the new pope. He served for five months before re-affirming the decree that allows for a pope to resign, and then resigned to go back to his life as a monk (he wasn’t able to, as his successor Boniface VIII imprisoned him out of fear that political dissidents might try to reinstall Celestine as an antipope and Celestine spent the last ten months of his life in prison but hey at least he got out of a job that he did not ask for in the first place)
Oh, my bad. When I read about Celestine, I simply thought you were referring to Dante's judgment in the Divine Comedy (the one who made the great refusal out of cowardice), and then I thought, "Poor Sanji, not a coward!" 😆😆😆
