    I mean, the Wasp Kingdom are implied to have attacked the roaches in the past and they are yellowjackets so it makes sense for the roaches to make an anti-yellowjacket weapon

    I personally wouldn't make lighting magic the reason, nor give him lighting magic at all, but it's your story so you should do what you want.
