Chapter Text

Stiles loved that Beacon Hills High School operated on a block schedule almost as much as he loved curly fries. He took a total of eight classes every semester which meant he had four classes everyday. It was honestly the way that he had survived high school so far, because it meant homework was done every other day and it was harder for him to get bored.

However there were also downsides to a school operating on a block schedule. Unlike yesterday, when he had eaten lunch with Jackson and Danny, he would probably be eating at an empty table alone. He wasn’t sure that Danny or Jackson had lunch with him today. He knew that Scott did, but there was no way in the ever loving fuck that Scott McCall would suddenly start paying attention to Stiles, his best friends since the first grade, especially when Allison had the same lunch.

Stiles trudged into the lunch room, he already felt defeated but he looked for his two new friends anyway. Much to Stiles’ surprise he saw Jackson sitting at a table mostly by himself except for the few people sitting at the far end of the table away from him.

His mood instantly turned around as he walked towards Jackson, swinging his backpack off of his shoulder and falling into one of the empty seats next to Jackson. Which scared the living daylights out of Jackson despite the fact that he possessed werewolf senses. “What the actual fuck Stilinski?” Jackson asked harshly, while Stiles almost fell out of his seat laughing.

“I would say I’m sorry but I’m really not. You have fancy super senses, you should have heard ,e coming. Although your reaction was pretty funny, maybe you should keep not using them.” Stiles managed to choke out between laughs. Jackson actually smiled at him, happy to have a friend at lunch. Not that he doesn’t have any, he’s Jackson Fucking Whitmore, he could have anyone as a friend if he wanted.

As the two friends continued to talk they didn’t see Lydia staring at them on her way back from getting food. She was in absolute awe. Jackson and Stiles were getting along which honestly could be a sign of the end of the fucking world. She wasn’t upset about it though, she had no problem with Stiles. Sure, he had been a little obsessed with her at one point but he was a good guy nonetheless. She snapped out of her thoughts a little and made her way over to the table, doing her best to hide the proud smile that wanted to break through her expression. Because she was really proud of Jackson for making a new friend.

“Hey, Stiles” Lydia said as she sat down in the other seat next to Jackson. The response she got from Stiles was not the response she had been expecting. She had been expecting him to say hi to her and then go on some rant about a random new thing he had learned, but that is definitely not what happened. Stiles did say hello to her but instead of ranting he picked up his lunchbox and backpack, and started to walk in the direction of the only empty table in the cafeteria.

“Stiles!” Lydia called out across the cafeteria, getting his attention. She walked over to him while she continued talking. “Did I do something to upset you? I’m really sorry if I did. I’ve been trying really hard to reign in the whole ‘Regina George, I hate you but you love me’ thing. Especially to you.”

Stiles was a little stunned but he had enough sense to cut her off. “What? Why would you think that you had done something to upset me? I left because I thought you wouldn’t want me there. Not that you have recently made me feel that way but people usually don’t want me around. I thought you would want Jackson to yourself.”

Now it was Lydia’s turn to be stunned. Except instead of talking to Stiles she simply grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him back to the table. She didn’t know who had made him feel so completely and utterly unwanted but she was sure as hell going to hurt anybody who had. Lydia knew that she had probably contributed to it and she wouldn’t be letting herself off the hook anytime soon because being dragged behind her was one of the sweetened most selfless guys she knew and he thought nothing of himself.

Reaching the table, Lydia pushed him into the seat he had been in before and said. “I am so sorry, you are a wonderful human and you are Jackson’s friend, therefore you are stuck with me for a long time.” before sitting in her own seat and starting to eat her lunch.

About halfway through lunch Allison came in. She sat down across from Lydia and started excitedly talking about some random assignment they had in a shared class. She didn’t seem to notice Stiles but her boyfriend, Scott, who had been trailing behind her definitely did. Scott looked at the table completely confused. “Since when do you have this lunch period?” Scott said.

Stiles looked up from the food he had been eating. “The entire year. My schedule hasn’t changed since the first week of school when they accidentally put me in the wrong math class, but that didn’t affect what lunch period I had.” Jackson was sitting next to Stiles looking dumbfounded. He knew stuff between Scott and Stiles had been tense for awhile but he didn’t think it had been that long.

Scott looked angry. “You seriously expect me to believe that you have had this lunch period all year and that I haven’t noticed you?” his voice raised just enough to be almost yelling. At this point the pair had the eyes of most of the cafeteria.

Stiles’ emotions were so confusing that he didn’t know how he felt. “I’m simply saying that I have had this lunch period all year.”

“That’s bullshit, you’re lying. Do you know how I know you’re lying? It’s because you are sitting with the stuck up spoiled brat, since when did you want to be friends with Jackson Whitmore?”

Stiles’ emotions were no longer confusing. Stiles knew how he felt, and he was mad. Not a little mad, he was really fucking angry. Scott can say all the shit he wants to about Stiles but bring Jackson into it was crossing the fucking line. “Who else would I have hung out with? You? Scott you havent talked to me for two months unless you needed help out of whatever stupid situation you’ve gotten yourself into.” Unlike Scott, Stiles kept his voice even and at a regular volume. He was pissed but he didn’t need to make a fucking scene. Jackson on the other hand didn’t mind making a scene. He didn’t yell but he was pushing himself out of his seat ready to launch himself at Scott. As soon as Stiles and Lydia saw him starting to push himself out of his seat, they both pushed him down by the shoulders in tandem. Stiles giving him a look that said ‘Let me fucking handle this you moron.’

Scott had lowered his voice and was essentially staring Stiles down. He said in a quiet, tense voice. “And what about you huh? I’m always saving you.”

Stiles whispered in a bone chilling voice. “You didn’t save me in the pool, and you sure as hell didn't save me when I was taken by Gerard.”

“That's because Gerard wouldn’t have hurt you. He just needed you out of the way.” hearing this Jackson turned to Stiles to see if he was okay. He wasn’t. He looked fucking terrifying, like he was about to fucking murder Scott. Jackson had no doubt that, even with Scott being a werewolf, if Stiles had wanted to he could have killed him. Stiles started to move, only he was moving away from Scott, he was walking away. Jackson watched him in fucking awe. Scott had just admitted to knowing Stiles had been taken, where he had been nearly killed, and he was still the bigger person. Now Jackson was also completely pissed and was having a hard time controlling his shift, but he knew that if Stiles wanted something to happen to Scott he would have done it himself. That's not to say that Jackson wasn’t planning something for later; he just needed to talk to Stiles first, because Stiles was more important. After standing, in awe and shaking with rage, for a couple of seconds, he rushed out the cafeteria doors trying to catch up with Stiles.

By the time that Jackson got out of the cafeteria both Stiles and Roscoe were gone. Jackson was plenty worried but he knew Stiles probably just needed space and to calm down. He would most likely text him at some point, hopefully.

Notes:

I am sorry for all the angst. I had no intention of making Scott that big of an asshole it just kind of happened. As a person who doesn't love reading angsty things I truly do apologize. The next chapter will be better. This is not everything I wanted to put in this chapter but I didn't want it do be really long so the next chapter will probably be out pretty soon. If I don't publish it tomorrow it will be published on 11/11

thank you for reading. If I write a chapter that angsty again should I add more of a disclaimer than I did? In the future I can add a big disclaimer and a recap of the chapter in the next chapter.
