Summary
-
Sometimes when Shel looks at Piper, she sees bits and pieces of a lost wanderer who’s seen a bit too much and had a bit too little.
Of course, Piper isn’t really a lost wanderer. Shel knows she moved to Oklahoma from San Francisco. She knows that Piper’s dad is Tristan McLean, that she got expelled from some school before. She’s seen her girlfriend on the news before, and she knows that even when Piper looks like she’s been in a hit and run, she still has her shit together.
But still.
-
Piper has never hated this stupid Santa Babara pier so much. She hates everything about it, from the blue of the water to the calls of the seagulls to the brown of the wood she sits on. She hates everything about this place, but still can’t bring herself to let go of it, because this was where she last spoke to him.
Jason Grace.

Summary
-
Gwen had not been kidding when she described that Reyna looked like she’d been, quote, “thrown into a bullfighting pen and left to fend for herself for three days straight”. Nico had no idea why the ex-centurion had used that metaphor to describe Reyna, but he felt that it was accurate in a sense.
There was no way anyone could miss the dark bags under Reyna’s eyes. Nico knew this for a fact: Reyna was in desperate need of— and also really did deserve— a good, long vacation.
-
Flying to Punta Cana for seven days what not what Reyna had meant when she told the Senators that she was going to sit on their proposal about the stupid drawbridge that some of them wanted to build around the Little Tiber. It wasn’t like she didn’t know how to have fun; she just thought she could have been doing better, more productive things.
Things like doing her job as a praetor and working through the stacks of paperwork in her office at Camp Jupiter that most definitely would become doubled by the time she returned again.
-
AKA: Reyna hasn't taken a proper break from her job in 72 hours and Nico believes she needs a vacation... and so he makes it happen.
