Summary
Through a miracle of his own, Pedro survived the attack. He spends his life on the other side of that mountain range and is as unaware of his family's survival as they are of his own.
50 years later, on his annual visit to the river to pay his respects, there is suddenly a gap in the mountains.
Old man he may be, but he never lost his sense for adventure. And what he finds in that village, hidden behind the mountains, will change everything.

Summary
The family is now aware that Mirabel blames herself for pretty much everything.
Among other things, she has convinced herself that she is the reason why there is so much tension between her Abuela and her Papa. It's up to Alma and Agustin to set her right.
In the process a new understanding is reached.

During the rebuilding of Casita, Isabela is tasked with taking Bruno on a stroll through the village to help him with his lingering social anxiety from his ten years in the walls.
Essential part of her mission? Do not lose sight of him! Which is exactly what she does almost immediately.
But maybe that's not such a bad thing, because while searching for Bruno she finally finds herself.
(but seriously, where is her uncle???)

Summary
Set during Chapter 10 of 'A Place for Crows': The immediate aftermath of Isabela's fight
********
Isabela lifts her hand so she can stare at her knuckles.
The red looks weird on her skin. It feels weird, too. Is blood supposed to be this cold? Isn’t it meant to be warm and sticky? It feels more like paint, reminds her of afternoons spent doing arts and crafts with Antonio and Tio Bruno. She expects to see some glitter in the red, some wayward scraps of paper, glue threatening to stick her fingers together.
But it’s not paint. It’s blood.
And it’s not her own either. Maybe that’s why it’s cold.
