Summary
Max had held his tongue a lot this year, trying so hard to support Charles in his decision to stay with the Scuderia. But, God. It was so hard.
‘Charles?’ Max whispered, stroking up and down his back. 'I'm sorry, baby. I just want you to be happy.'
‘I’m done.’ It came out hoarse, as if it hurt to admit.

Max hadn’t stopped picturing them together, he’d been dreaming of this since they were kids. They’d be unstoppable. This year, on the same team, they’d be reserving yet another podium place for Red Bull Racing at nearly every race.
Drenching each other in champagne, week after week.
Chasing championship points like it’s the only thing keeping them alive.
Oh fuck. Max couldn’t wait to race again.

It had unsettled Charles a bit in the beginning. The fact that he could’ve had this for years, if he’d just signed with them back in 2020.
But he was here now, and that was all that mattered.
And god, the car was fantastic. Charles couldn’t compare it to anything he’d ever driven before. It was simply in a league of its own. It was brilliant.

Summary
He’d gotten off to a brilliant start, reacting slightly quicker than Max when the lights went out. He’d stolen the inside line almost immediately, and in turn two, Charles Leclerc was leading the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix.
His engineer let out a laugh through the radio, murmuring something along the lines of ‘Oh, it’s on’.
They’d swapped places a few times, him and Max. Yet every time Max slipped up, even the slightest bit, Charles was there and ready to overtake.
Charles grinned behind his helmet. He was gonna bring it home, at his first race in the new car. Max wasn’t going to know what hit him.
As it turns out, Max would in fact know what hit him. Or rather, who did.

Then came Jeddah, all too hot and humid for March in Charles’ eyes. He had a sort of love-hate relationship with this particular track. The race here in 2022 had been exhilarating—a close battle with Max, leaving him hungry for more.
2023 had left him feeling drained.
This year, he couldn’t feel anything but pure thrill.

Summary
Charles was panting, a drop of sweat dripping onto his eyelashes. They were two-thirds into the race, and Charles remained in the lead.
Max had been on his ass up until he had a slow stop a couple laps ago, finally giving Charles a chance to breathe. Now, Max was 14 seconds behind him, and Oscar 5 seconds behind Max.
26 laps to go. Charles gripped the steering wheel tighter.
Max was hunting him down 10 or so laps later, only about two seconds behind. If it hadn’t been for his slow stop, Max would’ve been far ahead of Charles.

Summary
The reactions to Max’s radio message as Charles crossed the finish line in Monaco had been expected, you couldn’t really profess your love for your teammate for everyone to hear without it spreading like wildfire, could you?
The photos taken of them on the podium had spread even farther, reaching way beyond the F1 fans and making headlines everywhere.
In it, Max's hands are on Charles’ face and Charles’ hands are around Max’s waist. They’re both sporting terrible helmet hair, and kissing each other like their lives depended on it.
They painted quite the picture, both beautifully tousled, happiness radiating off them, and the sunset casting them in an orange glow.

Summary
As usual, they arrived late. Bidding their goodbyes to their crew, they got in the car that came to pick them up.
Perks of being F1 drivers.
They had waffles for dinner, with Charles arguing that it wasn’t dinner food. Max shut him up with a syrup-sticky kiss. Lando threw fries at them until they parted and Oscar fake retched.
As if they weren’t just as bad.
Max pulled him into the shower when they got to their room, washing his hair before taking him apart slowly. Always so soft, so gentle.
Then they’d stumble back to bed, on shaky legs with Max plastered to his back.
He’d pulled Charles on top of him, burying his nose in his hair and taking in the smell of his coconut shampoo.

Summary
It confused Charles a bit in the beginning—how a man who usually hates anything extra and loud could thrive with so much attention on him.
But he knew better now.
On race day, it rained. A lot.
By the time Charles got out of his car and parked (not so neatly) in front of 1st place in Parc Fermé, he was soaked to the bone.
It wasn’t cold outside, but Charles still jogged to the drivers' room to change after his interview. Max followed.

Summary
It startled him sometimes, how easily he could separate his feelings for Max on track. It was like he got tunnel vision the second he put his helmet on.
Still, he cringed at how far back Max had slipped down. He’d only just have enough time to catch up to Charles before the race ended.
The safety car took forever, but when it finally pulled back; Charles pushed.

Summary
Yet again, four points separated Max and Charles. This time to Charles’ advantage.
The Constructors Championship was in the bag, with no team being anywhere near them.
But the Drivers Championship remained unclaimed.
It was a good thing Christian had embraced the streaks of silver in his hair, because they certainly weren’t going easy on each other out there. They did what they’d always done: race. And if anything, they’d become more competitive as the season progressed.
Charles was gaining experience, and his confidence on track was sky high, while Max had a title to defend, and he wasn’t going down without a fight.

Summary
Sunday morning came, and as Charles dislodged himself from the tangle of limbs he found himself in, he felt calm.
He made some coffee and sat down on the hotel counter, legs dangling.
He wasn’t sure how long he waited there before Max joined him. He winced at the bright rays of sun streaming through the big windows, settling with his back against them. He moved to stand in between Charles legs, arms wrapping around his neck.
His forehead came to rest on Charles shoulder, and Max was sleepy and warm as he hugged him back.

The formation lap had Charles’ palms sweating and his breathing shallow.
Gentle words of encouragement crackled through his headset, with them; fear of disappointing the team doubling.
Before long, he was lining up on the grid, next to Lewis.

Before long, Charles Leclerc was leading the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Summary
Panic grew in his stomach for a second before the force of Max slamming into him sent him stumbling backwards.
And then Max was babbling; hoarse, and teary. His words were muffled into his suit, and Charles could barely process what he was saying before Max’s lips were on his.
It was a little gross, snotty and wet.
It was the best moment of his life.

‘I’m thrilled for him, but having to watch out for two Leclercs in my mirrors is going to be a challenge. Lucky for me, he’s not on a top team yet, but when he gets there, it’s going to be tough keeping them both behind me. I’ll enjoy the few poles that I get while I can, because God. That kid is just as fast as his brother over one lap.’
