Summary
[19m 33s]
Your quartermaster lives mostly in the corner of your eye, dogging your steps like a half-formed shadow. He would look foolish except that he doesn’t. It suits him perfectly, this way of being—at your side, a half-step behind, your eyes and your voice and your other hand. He’s never called you Captain seriously. Even in the beginning, some twist of his voice told you that he took it as a joke, and it made your blood boil with tempered rage, but he was a sharp rigger and a sharper quartermaster, and eventually he started calling you Charles, that same twist in his flighty sparrow-voice, and somehow that was alright, wasn’t it?

Summary
[7m 14s]
There’s something fraught in this room with them, a crackling skin-deep tension that never quite goes away no matter how routine this becomes. They can’t seem to let go of it. It’s instinctive. Like holding your breath before plunging into seawater, or off a cliff, or into danger. They do this sometimes, he and Anne. He’ll be a woman, or wear women’s clothing, or both or either, and she’ll play a man. And then they fuck in some very creative ways about it; it’s all in good fun, for the most part, if he doesn’t dwell too long in his own head.
Maybe this time will be the time he figures it all out, the queer and aching bruise inside the both of them that drives them to do the things they do.
