Summary
Eorzea is in peril. Fifteen years ago, the Garlean Empire smashed its everlasting maw into it and bit off a morsel to sate its warmongering hunger, but it was never enough. And yet the continent ignores the threat. The Sharlayan mage and scholar Y'shtola wonders if she and master Louisoix are the sole people who fear what the Garleans truly intend and that it will be too late before anyone can act. But they won't give up, which is why they make the journey to the southern lands, hoping to find answers in unexpected corners. Perhaps the smuggler Joltin Dazkar might be one such avenue.
Eorzea is ripe for the taking. This is the belief of Eternal Emperor Solus zos Galvus and the words of Legatus Gaius van Baelsar of the XIVth Legion. This is why he is sending his second, Livia tol Junius and her highly-skilled mostly foreign-born subordinates in Battalion Subzero, led by Primus Ordinarius Jhera, to make the land ready for his true conquest. It is to this battalion that Fordola and other volunteers and conscripts of Ala Mhigo are being sent, to serve their former conquerors. She doesn't know what this will entail, but Fordola will prove herself to them and make the rest of Eorzea submit to the selfsame humiliation.

In the meanwhile, the various Eorzean city-states stand either divided or drenched in their respective internal disorder, none of them poised to take on the waves of extermination which are about to swamp them. It will ride on the Scions to prove both to the regional rulers and to themselves that an alternative exists and the odds of pulling together in desperate hope of defending their homes are not zero.
