Fate has chosen them all as the heroes of the multiverse. Steve Rogers is unthawed right into the madness, alone, fresh out of World War II.
There are things happening that Steve doesn’t quite agree with. For example, the way Loki’s hands linger on Peni’s waist just after battle. Just because it’s legal now and was legal at the time he plunged into the ice doesn’t mean that it’s right – at least in his opinion. Then again, Loki’s age is forever a mystery to all of them save for Thor and Hela. Each time it happens, it prickles something in his chest. Really, it should be the least of his worries.
Bucky and Natasha spend a lot of time together. They’re not the same as the ones they had history with, but that doesn’t mean they can’t make new history. Steve’s disagreement with this isn’t anything other than selfish, a desire to be with the person who he knows best of everyone. It’s not that there isn’t enough camaraderie between them to keep Steve’s attention. To the contrary! It’s just...

Summary
The thing about all this is that even with so much going on it feels like something’s missing.
It’s not like Bucky is the only one to feel that way. Everyone, in some way or another – even Magneto – feels adrift. Multiversal clashes, according to Strange, tend to somehow feel as if they’re a vast void. You’re pulled out of your world. You’re put into another. Your body reacts, apparently. Your mind, too.
So fresh out of mind control, Bucky can’t figure out how to get a grip.
Asking Steve for help is complicated. This is his Steve, the one that he actually grew up with, the one who moved with him from Manhattan to Brooklyn after his mother died and he lost 569 Leaman Place to unpaid rent. Steve says they’ll always have a little bit of Brooklyn in them. Bucky believes that somewhere deep down. But it’s deep, and Steve is preoccupied with this thing he’s started with Tony.
Sometimes he watches them. They’re good together. So good. They’re missing puzzle pieces fitting together easily.
