Summary
He exhaled. His breath foggs, and he watches it, briefly alive, soft and unsure, before it then dies in the air. He wonders if that’s what he looks like to the others when he speaks. Thin, temporary, a whisper that vanishes before it reaches anyone.
They don’t like him much. He knows that. He knows the way their eyes linger on his jacket when they think he isn’t looking; the way conversations cut clean when he walks by. He doesn’t blame them. He doesn’t particularly like himself either. There is too much noise in his head and not enough warmth to burn it away.
Maybe the reason he was so cold was the fact it was night again. (It was always night, but still, he thought it every time.) The woods ahead, the only real visible thing in this night, were a mouth. Black trees, all teeth and silhouette, grinning into infinity. He stared at them until the shapes stopped looking like trees and started looking like something else. Something breathing. Something listening back.

Not to you (since you aren’t getting paid), not to the thug (who was probably not looking forward to being taken down by a teenage vigilante) and especially not to the mysterious figure, who’s sleep you’ve been stealing for the past month. That's what they get for following you around on their own accord.

In retrospect Jungkook thought it wasn’t quite fair. It wasn’t like he’d done something abominably stupid. Peter Parker breaking into restricted areas of Oscorp had been far more deserving of the consequences than his innocent investigation into a tiny glow at the side of the Han river. Whether he should have put his hand so close to the glow, well, that was a different story.
Or: Jungkook investigates a weird glow, gets really sick and runs straight to his Hoseok hyung. Hoseok is a competent adult and drags Seokjin into things as soon as possible where the three attempt to process the fact that BTS’s maknae now has superpowers. And Jin and Hobi unenthusiastically agree not to tell anyone else, which works about as well as you would expect.

(This version of this story is a rewrite- the original had a lot of missing plot, especially from specific characters so they were unfortunately very forgettable in that version, and my writing itself felt rushed and lazy upon rereading my own fic. I wished to make a new version, which will be much more evenly paced while focusing on story points where it should, while hopefully writing the story much better in general.

“Ready as I’ll ever be.” Jim replies cheekily. “I mean, the whole point of this one is that I’m mentally prepared until I’m not, and then you keep going anyway.”
“We have discussed a means for you to ‘tap out’.” Spock reminds him, concern once again making its way to the forefront of his mind.
