Summary
The yard is quiet. There’s only the wind in the trees brustling the leaves and the terrified whines of his dogs as all three of them hide behind his back, tails curling between legs and ears flat against their heads. The three Dobermanns all stare towards the shack on the edge of the yard, far enough from the house that the ring of illumination from the motion sensor porch lights doesn’t reveal anything.
Then Tommy hears it — squelchy, wet, crunching sounds come from behind the shack.
Wet grass mutes his footsteps as he approaches the sounds from the shadows, gun raised. Whatever it is, whoever it is, Tommy is prepared to shoot. Nobody should be here at night.
