A chilling that he could feel in him every time he sang. This dark, nebulous presence, with such talent, such patience. A voice present in Daniel’s heart and mind. A sweet, soft-spoken one at times, and grand, devilry at others. He calls Daniel, guardian of his talent, unseen genius and tutor. And Claudia knows this much. Of course, Daniel had delivered this explanation multiple times. He sights at Claudia’s inquiring eyes.

A second later, Daniel was pulled into a dark bathroom and pinned against the wall. Armand tightened his fingers on Daniel's tie, inhaling deeply through his nose.
"I want to bite you," he purred in a tone dripping with sweetness. As if he were saying: I want to hold your hand during a walk.
Daniel swallowed. He didn't know yet what he thought of this blatant directness.
"Are you sure? I drank a lot. It… will affect you somehow, right?"
But Armand's lips were already on Daniel's neck, tracing the vein with his mouth.
"I don't keep track of how much you drink, Daniel." His whisper tickled the sensitive spots on the boy's larynx. Shiver followed shiver.
"Bullshit, you do keep track."

Basicaly: The Halloween Party in San Francisco. Armand bites people. He also bites Daniel. Also does... a lot of other things to Daniel for the first time.

There’s just something so pathetic about the way Armand looks right now—the way he’s writhing in the rubble, pained and lethargic, like he’s genuinely struggling to move. Part of Daniel wants to stay and see how this pans out. Of course, the guy has just proven himself to be a legendary liar, so the whole “wounded animal” shtick could be total bullshit. Daniel could be two seconds away from having his jugular ripped out. So, another part of Daniel, the smarter part—the part that’s causing his heart to race and the tremor in his right hand to intensify—is telling him to listen to Raglan James for once and run!
But still, Armand really doesn’t look like he’s in any shape to pounce on Daniel and rip out his jugular. And the thing is… Daniel had another dream, the night he unearthed the horrors of Divisadero Street. Fragmented flashbacks. Nothing cohesive. Much like the ones he’d had of Armand tormenting him—although this one was perhaps even more unsettling.

"Good advice? What, the great vampire Armand helping a mere mortal pick up a chick? Man, I know you get weird hyperfixations, but I won't buy it."
"It's less about, as you crudely put it, picking up a chick, and more about preventing you from making a fool of yourself," Armand corrected him, completely unfazed by the boy's malice.

But now he wasn't as afraid. And Armand's anger had subsided. Maybe this year Daniel could go back for a bit.
And if not... maybe he could trick him enough that the vampire would chase him to some other place where Daniel wouldn't actually show up at all. And after Halloween... well, he'd figure out how to handle Armand's fury. He didn't like being duped.
(Daniel had learned that the hard way once. He bought a different, cheaper replacement blender, convinced that Armand, so technologically clueless, wouldn't notice the difference. Jesus Christ. Since then, Daniel triple-checks the serial numbers before buying the specified item. Thank God his fingers weren't chopped off and blended.)
But now they knew each other a bit more intimately. Well, Armand certainly knew Daniel's neck more intimately. Daniel, on the other hand, had learned to tell the vampire's mood from the shade of his eyes.

Armand in a faded AC/DC shirt. Daniel knew he had that exact shirt buried in the back of his closet. Old and worn with holes along the seams. A sleep shirt, a comfort he’d never been able to get rid of. Why would Armand have it? And, more fucking notably, why was his own goddamn self out cold against Armand’s side?
