She looks up at him gently, galaxy-like pupils widened. “Are you intimidated, human?”
Perhaps he should have been, but he only feels safe. Maybe a little turned on.“You’re beautiful,” he says sincerely. The tendril extends further, spiralling around his arm and embracing it in a firm grip. It squeezes, gently, but Hoseok senses the strength she’s holding back. In order to satiate the curiosity Veritas Ratio finds himself confronted with, every time an interaction with Aventurine of Stratagems leaves him with more questions than answers, he joins him on another wild gamble.
This time the stage for his bet happens to be Penacony, a place where finally, Aventurine can't place his life on the line. They are there upon Invitation after all and hopefully everything will go smooth, with a reasonable plan in mind.In retrospect, Dr. Veritas Ratio can agree, that he is a fool for thinking that.

And when he curled into Mama’s side on top of sweat-soaked sheets with the windows cracked open as wide as they could go in an apartment from the dinosaur age, he tried for a week to untangle her knotty hair with her comb. And when that broke beyond all repair he carried on with his fingers, whispering into her back the stories Dad had used to send him off to sleep. He did this again and again until he forgot what A/C felt like. Until he got caught on snarls he couldn’t fix. Until his throat choked on the tales of simpler monsters.
That was the first time life tried to tell him that love wasn’t always enough.
It wasn’t the last time he chose not to listen.
