Our boys are getting to know one another and (hopefully) learning to trust despite their past experiences. New relationships take time to build, and as usual, the world has a habit of getting in the way of things. Will they turn to each other when trouble shows up? Or will it tear them apart? This story starts where Guide Me Home leaves off.

Summary
The Long Riders is a good episode for angst but also leaves me so frustrated by how little recognition Jess gets for his actions so anyway I wrote this to let off some steam.

Summary
Several months have passed since Jess settled down on the Sherman Ranch, and sometimes he still feels overwhelmed by an impending fear of losing the best thing he’s had for himself in a very long time. He takes off for a ride to collect his thoughts together, not intending to leave permanently, but even a short amount of time can lead to trouble for Jess Harper. Slim isn’t going to let his friend go so easily and rescues him in more ways than one.

Summary
A new take on how Jess and Slim meet and bond so quickly. How does Jess always seem to know when people are sneaking up on him? How does Slim always manage to calm him down? Here's a look at their backstory and maybe some answers to these questions... Sentinel/Guide AU. Beware of some violence (not graphic), suspense, (very) mild swearing, and side character deaths. This is cross posted to another site.

Summary
As Mort gets closer, they rein in to wait for him. When Mort gets closer Slim can see the pinched look on his face, which usually means the older man has a problem going on and that he isn’t very close to solving it. He leans on the pommel of his saddle as the older man comes to a stop in front of them. “Looks like you have a bit of trouble Mort.”
Mort looks between them, a frown pulling at the corners of his mouth. “I got more than a problem. You two got any cattle missing?”

Summary
A man on the drift wasn't beholden to nobody; his troubles were his own and his secrets stayed between him and his horse. Jobs were just that: he earned his pay and moved on. On the Sherman spread, though, a common cowhand got a spot at the dinner table, a chair by the fire, and three sets of sharp eyes on every move he made. Jess'd signed on to rope cows and mend fences. So why was there a kid bounding up to chatter at him every afternoon, an old coot fussing over every cut he didn't hide fast enough, and a stork-legged do-gooder making him think too much about every decision he'd ever made? When'd everything get so dadgum complicated?
A reluctant, bewildered Jess sidles into domesticity with the ranch's patchwork family.
Set just after Laramie S1E1: Stage Stop. AU.
