Summary
Regulus dropped his gun. It hit the sand with a dull thud.
Years ago, Regulus had wondered whether he might be a psychopath. He ticked many boxes: high intelligence, prudence, strategic thinking, emotional detachment, meticulous selection of masks. He understood and had few social bonds but didn’t particularly value them. Not really.
If someone had threatened Evan, Barty, even his own brother he’d be furious, but he would not strive at all costs to spare them pain. He wouldn’t have dropped his gun. He would’ve considered it a lesson for their disobedience or carelessness.
But that was before James.
Before he understood what it meant to feel. To love with heart, mind, and body.
James didn’t need lessons. James was perfect. He deserved to be protected, pampered, worshipped.James and Regulus want to relax for a while on vacation. It turns out Regulus can't take time off from his job. James gets hurt and Regulus doesn't take it well.
