Summary
In this AU, Arthur found out Merlin was immortal two years before his death. He spoke to the Fates, and they revealed certain truths to him. So now, in the time he has left, Arthur spends his days writing—1,500 letters to be exact. One letter for each year of Merlin’s life, asking him to do one thing that year until Arthur returns in the future.
But I’m using this idea to practice my writing. I hope you enjoy it.

Merlin cocks his head to the side as he processes Arthur's words and actions. It's like watching him try to solve a complex 1000-piece puzzle where the final image just doesn't seem to match what's on the box. Arthur can practically see the gears turning in his head and he feels a fresh pang of guilt.
‘No,’ Arthur repeats, ‘I don’t want you to go, it's just—’ He startles when he feels a small hand tugging at the back of his leg, his explanation dying on his tongue as the reason for his hesitation joins him in the doorway.

Summary
"...I was taught how to act, how to carry myself, how to exist, and I don’t stray very much from that.” Arthur wasn’t quite sure why he decided to tell Merlin all of this. He’d never told another soul about how difficult it was to learn the things everyone else seemed to do so easily. His heel hammered against the hardwoods.
“And, are you happy with that?” Merlin asked. That question stumped him. Was he happy?
“I’m the person I wanted to be. I’m respected, I have the support of my kingdom, and I know what I’m doing.”
“And that makes you happy?”
“Yes.” Arthur thought, at least.
