Summary
It was a picture, tattered and dirtied beyond belief but still held behind a glass pane from the framing in a desperate attempt to preserve what was left. Around it were medals, ones he felt were undeserving, but they surrounded it nonetheless. The reasoning for it was a pathetic one, feeling the ache spread to a painful grip against his heart as he slowly stood from his chair.
He mainly leaned on his cane as he sauntered over, reaching his free hand up to take the picture off the wall, putting his pipe down as if he feared it burning the contents inside even behind protection. There wasn’t a risk he was willing to take with the wooden frame catching light, bringing the picture closer to his sight.
