Summary
He’d become accustomed to that vacant stare, although he was beginning to miss being able to see her face. It was comforting to know that in a world of things, there were still people he could trust. He wouldn’t dare say anything about it though. Not when his own face was still a mystery to her. It was why he liked to hold her hand. He hoped it was as comforting for her as it was for him. Holding hands meant they were together, inseparable, and it was a reminder that they were alike. Both small, fragile, and frightened but together.

A boy and a girl, lost in the Pale City, take a small respite from their wanderings. They’ve come a long way from the Wilderness and so the boy takes a moment to reflect on their journey. Frightening though it may have been, he has her, and she knows what it means to survive.
