Maes jerks, instinctively ducks at the sound of the gunshot. But he is standing in his own house, and when he turns, sees the corner of the table through the doorway, hears Elicia’s laugh, his heart stops.
He presses the phone receiver hard against his ear. “Roy? Roy, are you there? Answer me! Roy!”
A ragged sort of gasp reaches Maes.
BANG!
Another gunshot from the other end of the line, and this time it is coupled with a terrible wrenching cry.
“Roy!!!”Or all Maes wants is to save his best friend. And he won't let this nightmare/daydream/whatever-the-hell-it-is end until he does. No matter how many times he has to do it over.
