The words hung in the air between the two women, the silence felt suffocating. Agatha would rather hear the world spread rumors, lies, about what happened to her their son, than admit the tragic truth of what had happened that day. She'd never meant to be a mother, but she was. She'd been Nicky's mother for six years. She'd raised him for six years more than she was ever meant to see. Six years that Rio had been robbed of watching the two from a distance, hiding in the shadows as they watched their son grow. She saw brief moments, and that was all.
The truth had been so awful, because neither of them, despite loving their child so deeply, could do anything to stop the cruel hand of fate from ripping their son from them. Sometimes, boys die. It was something they’d never be able to prevent.
