Summer of 2020, the infamous Games occurred in South Korea. Full of death, blood, betrayal, the epitome of human beastiality captured in childish pastimes- the VIPs however, rich in everything but sensation, aren’t satisfied with just one game a year.
Winter of 2020. Nestled within some off-shore island in the west coast of the United States of America, more games take place.
Nine years ago, Mari fell down the stairs. She didn't die this time. Basil still panicked, Sunny still lied. As the words “comatose” and “uncertain prognosis” sunk into reality, the friend group broke apart just like before, only in different ways and for different reasons. A crack in the course of their picture-perfect lives, one that splintered and grew over the years, never fixed.
Medical bills, student loans, gambling mistakes, bad addictions and family debt.
So many ways a life could crumble.
One minute, they were given a card by the sinister Salesman. Three symbols on its back. Circle. Triangle. Square. The next, Sunny, Hero, Kel, Aubrey, and Basil woke up in a metal-framed bed wearing numbered clothing. Each had a reason to leave. Each had more reasons to play.
Let the games begin.

It was a perfectly ordinary Thursday in Faraway Town, as far as Kim was concerned. She planned to have a sleepover with Aubrey that night, so that would be something fun to do. Her brother would probably want to go steal some more candy from Othermart too, so she could do that later. But for now, All she wanted to do was sit in the park and enjoy the sunshine.
I never really get the chance to do this , she thought to herself, just take a moment to relax. It was hard work being the second in command of The Hooligans. Especially keeping Angel and The Maverick under control.
She sighed to herself contentedly, wondering how long this moment of relative quiet would last.
Not long enough, clearly, as she was startled out of her thoughts as a young girl, probably 12 or so judging by how tall she was, ran past Kim while crying.
Now, on some days, Kim may have just let the girl pass and gone back to her daydreaming; on others, she may have gone to seek out one of her friends to actually do something.
Today, however, she got a very, very bad feeling.

After all, he and Basil had agreed to this: their souls in exchange for Mari’s, their lives for hers, all to fix a mistake that never should have happened to begin with. For four years, Sunny spent his days and nights hiding away from the world as he chipped away pieces of his heart and soul with his own two hands, until there was hardly anything left but an empty shell--yet despite all of this, when Kel knocked at his front door, completely unaware of the timer counting down the seventy-two hours of life that he had left… for some reason, the small scraps left of Sunny’s heart just couldn’t turn him away.

Summary
For the past almost four years, Mari has been in a coma. The former friend group has been majorly affected. Everyone displayed it at least one time or another. Everyone but Kel.
It wasn't like he wasn't hurting, he was! His body has started to thin in the past month, but he's convinced that no one would care because of how he exercised. Nobody knew the unhealthy extent of it nor how he stripped meals of himself; Either by skipping them or forcing them back out. They didn't know about how dark and manipulative his mind was.
He didn't want them to know. They shouldn't need to be scared for him. Well, rather, fake their worry. That's all he got was faked worry. Why would they have genuine worry for an annoying nuisance like him?
