if this were any other person, John would have lied. He would say dying in your sleep, pain-free, with dignity and surrounded by loved ones at your bedside. But this is not a normal person. This is Dale Edson. So he shakes his head nervously.

An angry verbal exchange between John Carter and Dale Edson over John's new intern, Lucy Knight, takes a violent turn. They are in the morgue. There is a walk-in freezer. Dale locks Carter inside and leaves him there.
It was only supposed to be for a few minutes. The pathologist was supposed to come right back. He was supposed to let John out.
That's not what happens.
OR: Carter nearly dies from hypothermia.

“John, you have to stop! You’re going to hurt yourself!” Dale shouted above the cacophony of thumps, scratches, and grunts.
After several minutes, the door mercifully stopped quaking and the sound of muffled movements replaced it. Maybe he tired himself out.
“It’s so dark in here. Let me out, please.” Carter sounded so small and distant, Dale could barely make out what he was saying.

Sicktember Day 14- Bedridden
There is a gentleness to Dale Edson that few ever get to see. But Carter is lucky- in this one respect, at least.
“You gotta work with me, John. Hook your arm around the back of my neck. Like that- good. Now hold it.”
His heart is fluttering, and on its wings he is borne into the air, lifted from his rumpled, sweaty sheets and meeting sturdy warmth. He lets his head list against the solidity of his boyfriend’s chest. Shakily inhales the scent of expensive cologne. In turn, lips brush against his forehead, soothing and soft.
