Gotham needs a protector. A patron god who will protect her city and the shades within it. No godling has come to her though, so she does the second best option to waiting, and steals one.
Hades and Persephone do not take kindly to that.
Or, Jason is a lost godling that Gotham is hiding from Olympus. This becomes everyone's problem.

In the beginning there was nothing but the void and the beating of wings in the dark.
Then the Bat created the land beneath his feet and with his wings, the sky and from the primordial ocean, Life. Life set the stars in the sky so that there may be light for their endeavours, giving Life’s name, Nightwing. The Bat saw movement in the ocean. The limbs breaking the surface belonged to the being that the Bat dubbed Death.

“Oh.” Dick breathes out, taking in the handsome face of the god of destruction, all dark hair and blazing blue-green eyes, with high cheekbones complimented by a straight aquiline nose and a strong jaw. Dick’s gaze slips down to the God’s wide shoulders, strong, thick arms, trim waist and thighs that could crack a skull between them. He’s tall, easily twenty feet, if not more, and wild looking, rugged as a bear, with a mass of writhing tentacles coming out of his back, and yet, oddly young looking.
